Kindness Observed is about just that--observing others in acts of kindness and respectfully sharing those acts.
Interested in learning more about the "why" behind this group? Please read on...
There is a lot of kindness out there - we know there is, but what seems to get the most attention is the exact opposite. What we give our time and attention to is what grows. What we neglect fades away.
Let's pay attention to acts of kindness. Getting wrapped up in anger and negativity is easy - it whisks us away without knowing.
We hope this group and page become a daily reminder that there are plenty of good people around us doing good things.
Mindfulness is popping up more and more.
We are learning more about the benefits of mindfulness for overall wellness as a society. If you are unfamiliar with the term, "mindfulness," defined by the American Psychological Association, is awareness of one's internal states and surroundings. Mindfulness can help people avoid destructive or automatic habits and responses. (https://www.apa.org/topics/mindfulness)
It's nice to be recognized for our efforts, but it's even better when we can praise someone else.
The definition of "observed" includes: to celebrate or solemnize (something, such as a ceremony or festival) in a customary or accepted way (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/observe)
Let's celebrate kindness and make it customary.
This group was born out of a moment of inspiration by Dominic Levita. I love these resounding "YES" moments. Those random, but not so random, thoughts often lead to good places, and here we are.
Let's observe kindness and share it. Respectfully.
PS - The profile image and cover photo artwork include olive branches. The idea of extending an olive branch is a phrase with a long history, stretching back to Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. Today, the olive branch is a nearly universal symbol of peace, similar to the dove. If someone extends an olive branch, they're looking for peace, not war.
